Fifteen years after leaving the province of Manitoba for the desert heat of Arizona, the Jets found their way back to Winnipeg.  The fans longing for a NHL team since its departure packed the arena and the streets, joined by the Prime Minister Stephen Harper, celebrated the return of hockey in this Atlantic province.  The Montreal Canadiens, a team with countless fans in Western and Atlantic Canada, were invited to be part of this historic moment marking the return of the Jets.  While we are used to seeing the Canadiens being cheered west of Toronto, this game gave a feeling

Yemelin signs a one year two-way contract

The eagerly awaited news has finally arrived.  Montreal's Russian prospect, the 25 year old, 6'2, 223 lbs, defenseman Alexei Yemelin is about to arrive in the NHL.  The Canadiens announced earlier today that they Yemelin (Emelin) has signed a two-way one year contract with the team.  The financial terms of the contract were not revealed as per the club policies.

Among the die-hard Habs fan, the news has been circulating for a few days now that Alexei Yemelin (Emelin) from the AK Bars Kazan of the KHL might be signing with the Montreal Canadiens and be part of the lineup in the 2011-2012 season.  Several sources have reported that Yemelin's signing will also have a clause allowing him to return to the KHL instead of playing in the AHL in case Habs don't retain his services.  The contract is said to be for 1 year and no monetary value has been placed on the agreement as of yet.

The IIHF World Hockey tournament is now a few days old and a few Habs are playing for their respective countries.  Among them, there's Tomas Plekanec (Czech Republic), Andrei Kostitsyn (Belarus) and prospect Alexei Yemelin (Russia).  Yannick Weber would have been part of that list as well and despite initial reports by Swiss Hockey team that Weber would be joining the national team in Slovakia, he will not be part of this tournament.  Let's have a look at how these players have fa
