Pouliot not part of the plans?

With the draft approaching and the free agent frenzy set to begin soon, there are still a few question marks left in Montreal's camp with regards to the RFAs and the UFAs.  Benoit Pouliot is one of those question marks.  The 24 year old winger is currently an RFA and from all indications, there has been no offers made to him and no negotiations have taken place.  It seems likely that Benny is not part of Montreal's plans for the 2011-2012 season.

Goodbye Halpern?

The offseason is full of rumors and potential changes to the team, there's the free agent situations and the draft and the trades.  One of these rumors that surfaced recently was the fact that Kirk Muller, the assistant coach of the Montreal Canadiens will be leaving the team as his contract has come to an end and will join the Dallas Stars as their head-coach.  The other one concerns center Jeff Halpern.  It seems that Montreal's general manager Pierre Gauthier has passed the word to Halpern that he

Pouliot out?

No confirmation yet on whether Benoit Pouliot will be in the lineup tonight or not but if practice lineups are anything to base these assumptions on, Pouliot will be watching the game from the press-box.  Yesterday at the Habs practice facility in Brossard, Jeff Halpern was seen in the company of Lars Eller and Travis Moen while David Desharnais was skating with Tom Pyatt and Ryan White.  The combinations left Pouliot feeling like the odd man, but Coach Jacques Martin did not confirm his inclusion or exclusion from the lineup.

Plekanec, Halpern, Darche and Sopel on ice

Tomas Plekanec, Jeff Halpern, Brent Sopel and Mathieu Darche gave some good news to the Habs fans today and skated with the team at the morning practice.  Although their return for tonights game is not certain, it's most certainly a good sign that all four regulars were on the ice.  Both Plekanec and Halpern have missed the last three games after leaving the ice in the second period against the Washington Capitals last Tuesday.  While the team has not given any word on their injury status, they are expected to return to the lineup against the Capitals this coming Saturday

Plaushaj demoted, Engqvist Promoted

The Montreal Canadiens announced today that the Swedish centreman Andreas Engqvist will get another chance with the big boys for the second time this season.  The Habs signed the 6'4", 197 lbs centreman in July 2009 to a three year contract.  He has played 62 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs this season and has accumulated 21 points (8 goals, 13 assists) during that time.  He has also played two games with the Montreal Candiens in mid-January against Anaheim and Ottawa and averaged ten minutes per game of ice-time.

Habs recall Ryan White

The Montreal Canadiens continued to deplete the Hamilton Bulldogs after the injuries suffered in the game against the Buffalo Sabres last Tuesday.  After announcing the callup of Andreas Engqvist yesterday, the Habs announced earlier today that Ryan White will be joining the team in Ottawa for tomorrow's game against the Senators at the Scotiabank Place.  Ryan White had an extremely impressive pre-season with the Habs and many speculated that he might remain with the team as he was one of the last players to be sent down to the Bulldogs.  The 22 years old, 6 feet, 198 lbs

When Pierre Gauthier signed Jeff Halpern over the summer, many Habs fans wondered what kind of player they were getting. We knew of him but other than the fact that he was a former captain of the Washington Capitals, we weren’t sure how he would fit in on the team. Today, with twenty eight games into the season, it’s safe to say that Halpern has exceeded everyone’s expectations and has carved his niche on the team.

Gomez out with mysterious ailment

There's a strong possibility that veteran center Scott Gomez will not be in the lineup tomorrow night when the Habs faceoff against the Detroit Red Wings at the Joe Louis Arena.  Gomez, who left the game early in the second period against the Ottawa Senators on December 7th says that it's a lower-body injury and that he was struck by a leg.  Coach Martin said that he is "day-to-day".  Gomez was also absent from yesterday's on-ice team practice.  While no new information is available from the team regarding what ails Scott Gomez, it should be noted t
