IIHF plucks a few Habs

The 2011 IIHF World Championship will begin shortly and as teams from the NHL get eliminated slowly, the international teams are trying to bring the talent from the NHL into their roster.  With the Habs now eliminated after a heart-breaking defeat against the Boston Bruins in game 7 overtime, it's time for some of the talented Habs players to go and represent their countries.  The big names from the Habs include among others Tomas Plekanec, Andrei Kostitsyn and Yannick Weber.

Subban the star

Following an all-star performance against the Minnesota Wild last night, rookie P.K. Subban received further good news when he was picked as the third star of the week by the NHL.  Joe Pavelski of the San Jose Sharks and the goaltender Ray Emery of the Anaheim Ducks were chosen as first and second stars respectively.

Subban finished the week with six points in four games, collecting four goals and two assists.  In addition, he recorded 11 shots on goal and 5 hits while averaging 23:18 ice-time.  He finished the week with +3 on the plus/minus charts.

Montreal's rookie defenceman PK Subban will be joining his teammate Carey Price in Raleigh, North Carolina for the 2011 NHL All Star Weekend.  Subban who joined the Habs during their fairy-tale run to the Eastern Conference Finals in the 2010 season started the 2011 season with the Habs and has had his ups and downs during the first half of this season.  He is touted to be one of the top young offensive-minded defenceman in the league and has accumulated 19 points for the Habs in 45 games this season with an average time on ice of 21:14 per match.  In 14 post-season games

Gomez out with mysterious ailment

There's a strong possibility that veteran center Scott Gomez will not be in the lineup tomorrow night when the Habs faceoff against the Detroit Red Wings at the Joe Louis Arena.  Gomez, who left the game early in the second period against the Ottawa Senators on December 7th says that it's a lower-body injury and that he was struck by a leg.  Coach Martin said that he is "day-to-day".  Gomez was also absent from yesterday's on-ice team practice.  While no new information is available from the team regarding what ails Scott Gomez, it should be noted t

Subban benched?

Reports from RDS and Team 990 indicate that star rookie defenceman PK Subban will be watching tonights game against the Devils from the press box.   Subban, 21, became a regular on the team when he was called up during the 2009-2010 playoffs season after an injury to Andrei Markov.  Following an exceptional playoffs run, Subban, who was an instant favorite with the fans, remained with the team at the start of the 2010-2011 season.  So far, he has played all 25 games with the team and has recorded 1 goal and 8 assist during this run.

Last Night, the Philadelphia Flyers did what they do best when playing hockey:  Be Bullies.  Indeed, this was so clear when, with less than 4 minutes to go, Coach Laviolette put fighter Jody Shelley out on the ice while on a powerplay!  The intent was obvious and it was certainly not to get Shelley to score a goal and ruin Price's shutout.   When the Flyers couldn't solve Price, the final 10 minutes of the third period saw plenty of brawls, scrimmages and associated penalties.  O'Donnell and Hartnell, both got  10 minute misconducts in the fina
