Hot Price cools down the Jets’ engines

Fifteen years after leaving the province of Manitoba for the desert heat of Arizona, the Jets found their way back to Winnipeg.  The fans longing for a NHL team since its departure packed the arena and the streets, joined by the Prime Minister Stephen Harper, celebrated the return of hockey in this Atlantic province.  The Montreal Canadiens, a team with countless fans in Western and Atlantic Canada, were invited to be part of this historic moment marking the return of the Jets.  While we are used to seeing the Canadiens being cheered west of Toronto, this game gave a feeling

Yemelin ousted against Slovenia

The IIHF World Hockey tournament is now a few days old and a few Habs are playing for their respective countries.  Among them, there's Tomas Plekanec (Czech Republic), Andrei Kostitsyn (Belarus) and prospect Alexei Yemelin (Russia).  Yannick Weber would have been part of that list as well and despite initial reports by Swiss Hockey team that Weber would be joining the national team in Slovakia, he will not be part of this tournament.  Let's have a look at how these players have fa

IIHF plucks a few Habs

The 2011 IIHF World Championship will begin shortly and as teams from the NHL get eliminated slowly, the international teams are trying to bring the talent from the NHL into their roster.  With the Habs now eliminated after a heart-breaking defeat against the Boston Bruins in game 7 overtime, it's time for some of the talented Habs players to go and represent their countries.  The big names from the Habs include among others Tomas Plekanec, Andrei Kostitsyn and Yannick Weber.

Plekanec, Halpern, Darche and Sopel on ice

Tomas Plekanec, Jeff Halpern, Brent Sopel and Mathieu Darche gave some good news to the Habs fans today and skated with the team at the morning practice.  Although their return for tonights game is not certain, it's most certainly a good sign that all four regulars were on the ice.  Both Plekanec and Halpern have missed the last three games after leaving the ice in the second period against the Washington Capitals last Tuesday.  While the team has not given any word on their injury status, they are expected to return to the lineup against the Capitals this coming Saturday

Plaushaj demoted, Engqvist Promoted

The Montreal Canadiens announced today that the Swedish centreman Andreas Engqvist will get another chance with the big boys for the second time this season.  The Habs signed the 6'4", 197 lbs centreman in July 2009 to a three year contract.  He has played 62 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs this season and has accumulated 21 points (8 goals, 13 assists) during that time.  He has also played two games with the Montreal Candiens in mid-January against Anaheim and Ottawa and averaged ten minutes per game of ice-time.

Plekanec a game time decision

Montreal might have to face the struggling Buffalo Sabres without their best player tonight.  Tomas Plekanec, the leading scorer of the team, was told to stay in the team's hotel room after showing flu like symptoms.  While many of his team mates, including line mate Michael Cammalleri believe he will be in the lineup, he still remains a game time decision.

Buffalo is also having their own injury woes and will be missing Ryan Miller for tonight's game, out with a muscle strain.
