File Photo © Habsindepth.comWith only five games left to go in the season, Geoff Molson has made an announcement that will make Hab fans everywhere rejoice. Pierre Gauthier has been fired!
Along with Gauthier, Bob Gainey has also been released of his duties while Larry Carriere has stepped down as assistant coach to return to his front office job until a new GM is appointed.
Former player and GM Serge Savard will return as advisor to the team as they begin to search for a new man in charge. Molson also stated that there is no immediate timetable as to when the position will be filled but did say that while fluency in the French language is highly desirable it will not be a deal breaker as he wants to hire the best man for the job.
Whomever that man turns out to be, he will definitely have his work cut out for him as the team as it stands today is a complete train wreck. This man will have to figure out what to do with two overpaid and utterly useless players in Scott Gomez and Tomas Kaberle as well as make tough decisions on what players should return for next season. On top of all of this, you can pretty much guarantee that there will be a new coach come next season and if he does not speak French, look out!
This is just a small portion of things the new GM will need to address and you can rest assured that his every move will be followed closely as always. All in all it should make for an interesting off season, let the search begin!
