What’s worse than the Habs losing to the Bruins in round one? How about the Bruins making it to the finals? Well as it happens, to the chagrin of most Habs fans, Claude Julien’s Bruins are getting a crack at the cup. The most aggravating thing is that the Bruins are not even that good of a hockey team. Sure they have a few good forwards and whether we like it or not Chara is a difference maker but this is a team that has proven time and time again that when a team plays good hockey against them they simply don't know how to react.
Now I know many Bruins fans will say that this is a biased opinion because of the rivalry between Montreal and Boston and that the Bruins are no more bullies than the Habs are divers but that is an argument for another day. After beating the Habs, Boston went on to defeat the Flyers and the Lightning, these are two teams that I have never been fond of and probably never will. Even though I did not really care who won either of these series it did give me a chance to watch the games without any bias whatsoever. After watching the last two rounds it became very apparent that every time the Bruins were outplayed they always resort to their familiar tactics, dirty and underhanded plays that usually leads to players getting banged up or injured. Is this the team you want to see win the cup? I don't think so. Now that I have let my feelings be known on the Bruins, let's take a look at the Stanley Cup Finals.
BRUINS VS CANUCKS
Let's start with the goalie matchup, Thomas has had a great season but has struggled at times during this year's playoffs and things are not going to get any easier. Vancouver has an abundance of players who know how to bury the biscuit and I for one will not be surprised if Thomas gets the hook in favour of Rask at some point in this series.
Luongo on the other hand seems to be getting better and better and even though he will get a lot of traffic in his crease from the Bruins I don't expect this trend to change.
On defence the Bruins really taper down after Chara, definitely an area Vancouver could expose and take advantage of. As far as the Canucks D-men are concerned, well let's just say they got a good balance.
At the forward position we have another mismatch as Vancouver's four lines are much more complete than Boston's.
So on paper, the Canucks are going to sweep the Bruins and win the cup right? Well, not so fast, this is the Stanley Cup Finals after all. Anything can happen and that`s the scariest thought of all. Can you imagine what kind of nonsense we would have to put up with if the Bruins actually won? The Bruins faithful would be ranting and raving about how great their team is and that they knew it all along. Could you imagine Don Cherry's reaction? I can just picture him now doing cartwheels in his ridiculous suits and going on about how a real hockey team won the cup. Ugh! All I can say is, I really, really hope that this does not become reality and the Canucks play to their potential to finally win their first cup.
Prediction: Canucks in six
