The big finale

Just like the previous rounds my predictions where 50/50 in the Conference finals. I had the Kings making it through but not the Devils. New Jersey has been one of those teams this year that is hard to predict. When you look at the struggles they had against the Panthers in round one, you would never have guessed that they would be at the big dance but here they are. Here’s a question would the Devils have made it to the finals if they would of faced any other team in the Eastern final?

The Conference finals

Well here we go the final four, New York versus New Jersey and Los Angeles versus Phoenix. Who will win their Conference finals and go on to battle for Lord Stanley’s Cup? One thing is for sure it might not be necessarily who you think it should be. The thing that especially holds true in this year’s playoffs is unpredictability.  If you had told me that the Coyotes were going to make this year’s final four I would have given you one of those looks or simply chuckled out loud, but here they are.

Playoff Predictions Round 2

Last night round one ended with two game sevens and the late game took double overtime to declare the winner. If round one showed us anything, it’s that today’s NHL is becoming harder and harder to predict. I managed to go 4 for 8 in round one but only was able to call a perfect series only once. I called the upset of the Capitals over the Bruins but let’s be honest part of that prediction was wishful thinking.

Playoff Predictions: Round 1

Before the season started I made my predictions on where I felt the Eastern Conference teams would finish after 82 games. Needless to say I did not fare so well as a couple of teams underperformed and others had a much stronger season than expected. In the end I predicted five of the eight playoff teams that have made it and three of those picks were right on the money as far as where they seeded. The two teams that really made me look bad however, are the Ottawa Senators and the Florida Panthers.

Habs vs Bruins 1st round match-up highly likely!

With a new season set to begin on Thursday, it’s once again time to make my predictions on who will finish where in the eastern conference after all 82 games have been played.  The off-season saw many teams sign free agents and swap players in hopes of improving their chances at making the playoffs. The following article will give you a brief recap of what these teams have done over the summer and my thoughts of why I believe they will finish in the following sequence.

No. 1: the Washington Capitals

The Finals!

What’s worse than the Habs losing to the Bruins in round one? How about the Bruins making it to the finals?  Well as it happens, to the chagrin of most Habs fans, Claude Julien’s Bruins are getting a crack at the cup. The most aggravating thing is that the Bruins are not even that good of a hockey team. Sure they have a few good forwards and whether we like it or not Chara is a difference maker but this is a team that has proven time and time again that when a team plays good hockey against them they simply don't know how to react.

The Conference Finals

So let me get this straight, Tampa Bay runs over Washington for the sweep, Boston does the same against Philly and two teams that have a history of underachieving advanced to their conference final. If we learned anything from round two, it’s that predicting playoff games in today’s NHL is getting harder and harder. At least I can say that I have taken the lead among my fellow HID writing staff going 2 for 4 with 1 perfect series in round two.

One step closer

Following a grueling first round that saw four of the eight series being decided in game seven and out of those four, two needing sudden death overtime to find the winners, eight teams advanced to the next round in their quest for the big prize.  While I expected few upsets in the first round, the top four teams with the exception of Anaheim in both the conference advanced in their respective Conference semi-finals.  I had personally picked Anaheim to beat Nashville, even though I was not completely convinced about Anaheim’s goaltending.  With Nashville’s weak off

Round 2 Predictions

I am happy to say that I was 5 for 8 with 2 perfect series called with my first round predictions finishing second among the HiD writing staff. Only fellow HID writer Mitin Patel out predicted me going 6 for 8 with 2 perfect series. I am sad to say that the Habs are out and they won’t get their rematch with the Capitals. I am even sadder about the fact that my wife kicked my butt with her first round predictions going 6 for 8 with an astounding 4 perfect series.  Needless to say I need to pick it up if I am going to regain my hockey dominance in the household.

The Final Showdown

It has come down to this.  Game 7.  The last one in a rather tough series between the Montreal Canadiens and the Boston Bruins.  If it's of any help, history is on the Habs side.  The teams have met for seven game 7s all time and Montreal has won five of them.
